During the mid-80s and early 90s Movin’ Records defined the New Jersey sound. A skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” Abigail Adams, Movin’s first output was ‘I’ve Got The Music’ by Boyd Jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers Blaze, Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries and Smack; straight up “Jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. Still the Movin’ Records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
New Jersey recording artist Vicky Martin teams up with Chicago house visionary Marshall Jefferson to create a sublime classic. ‘Not Gonna Do It’ features the 12” Mix from Larry Patterson, the original Zanzibar resident DJ and a mentor to Tony Humphries. Bonus versions include a bumping club mix from Chris ‘Bam Bam’ Westbrook not featured on the original US release, an underground dub from Chicago’s Mike Dunn and a rare remix by London producer Chris Paul. This package also includes previously unreleased mixes from Marshall Jefferson, Larry Patterson and Mike Dunn, plus the Accapella which has been sampled relentlessly across various genres ever since.
